It seemed to be a perfect day today. One of those days that you read about or see pictures of in magazines but rarely experience. Well, today Jensen Miller was witness to one. The weather was lovely. Not too hot, not too cold. The sun was out and she could feel its rays slowly tanning her arms. Not a cloud in the sky. She almost wanted to take a picture of it to remember it in case she left Wells Beach again. California was sunny alright but the heat could be unbearable at times. Days like these and you couldn’t help waking up a little cheerful.
Cheerful was a fair enough word to describe Jensen that morning. Other than the weather there were other things that had put the young women into a good mood that day. One being the meeting she had arranged with Matthew. It had been months since she’d seen him though she’d tried to keep in contact over the phone. He’d always been such a sweetheart and Jensen would always have a soft spot in her heart for him. He was like a goofy, little brother in a way though he wasn’t that much littler than her. Matt had the ability to put a smile on your dial even when you didn’t want one there. There had been heaps of instances were Jensen had finally mastered her scowl for one reason or another and Matt had come along and ruined it. It was all apart of his charm however and she adored him for it. Coming home had been a slightly nerve racking experience and not everyone was taking it aswell as she would have hoped. She could count on Matt though. Her heart had fluttered around nervously when she’d sent him that first text message but in true Matthew fashion, he’d come through as she’d hoped. Now meeting up with him seemed just like the old days.
Jensen had even made an effort that morning. She’d said to meet at eleven and she’d only been five minutes late. As opposed to her usually minimum of fifteen minutes late. Arriving at the docks, she grinned as she spotted the boy waiting for her. He hadn’t really changed a bit. Maybe he was taller actually, she’d find out when she got closer. The sun sparkled out over the water and she caught a scent of the ocean. God she’d missed hanging out here. Despite her fear of boats, as long as she wasn’t on one, she’d always enjoyed the docks. Back in highschool she’d always drag Matt out here to talk to when she felt the need. He was good like that, he let her rant or whatever and always seemed to remain calm.
A huge smile on her face and she half ran, half skipped towards him, her shoes thwacking against the ground as she gained speed. ”Mattttyy” she squealed in excitement, her entire being happy to finally get to see him in the flesh. Coming at him with a little speed behind her, she threw her arms around his neck in a huge hug followed by an eruption of giggles. ”Oh let me look at you” she finally released him after a good thirty seconds and took a step back to take in his appearance. ”You’re taller than me now” she pouted before letting her pursed lips break out into another smile. Ofcourse he was taller, he always had been but she’d have liked to think she’d caught up by now. ”It’s so good to see you” she calmed down a little though her grin wasn’t so easy to tame. Taking a moment she caught her breath, wishing she hadn’t forgot to pick up milkshakes for them on the way. A chocolate milkshake sounded perfect right about now.
”You need to catch me up on everything” Jensen finally told him, bubbling with excitement, ”I feel like I’ve missed out on everything”. It was true. That was exactly how she felt. She’d been planning on getting the goss off Lexy but apparently Jensen wasn’t one of her favourite people at the moment. Matt would do, and at least he was someone to talk to. He was like…her boy Juliet. Juliet? Jensen had almost forgot. She should have invited the other girl. After all Matt and Juliet seemed to be a pair right. With one came the other.”How’s things with Juliet?” she asked, trying her best to catch up on everything. She stopped for a moment though. Her mood deflating. What if she had missed some major stuff? Stuff that had been hard for her friends. And she hadn’t been there.

i used to rule the world seas would rise when i gave the word now in the morning i sleep alone
sweep the streets i used to own - - - - - - - - - - - Today was going to be a good day. Matthew just knew it. He had woken up at ten o'clock which would've been around ten minutes ago. The young man was sitting at his kitchen table finishing off the bowl of cheerios that he had been eating for breakfast. There was no need for rushing as he had no classes today. There were only two things on his schedule for the day; hanging out with Jensen at eleven and basketball practice at five. He wasn't focusing on practice, that was the last thing on his mind for once. Meeting up with Jensen seemed more important at the moment. Jensen Miller had been a fellow student of his back when he was in high school. She was a year older than him meaning that she had always been in a higher grade. Yet even though there was a slight age difference they still became good friends. She was a fun girl to be around, a partier too. Matt wasn't big on the party scene, he liked going out every now and then but he preferred to just stay in with a few friends. Jensen never failed to get him out of the house, if she wanted him to go out with her than all she had to do was call and he'd be there. She had him wrapped around her little finger in that way but that wasn't really saying much considering Matthew was a pushover especially when it came to girls. He was the guy that a girl would call if they wanted to go shopping because he'd go around with them, carry their bags and hardly complain. Basically he'd do anything to make a friend happy, it was part of his charm. He was a true sweetheart thanks to the way that his parents had raised him. They made sure that he acted in a polite manner, that he always said thank you and his father wanted to make sure that he knew how to treat a lady. That he was a gentleman.
Eating the last few pieces of cereal from the bowl the twenty year old stood up from his seat and walked over to the sink. He placed his dirty dishes in there, he'd have to deal with them later but for now he needed to get himself cleaned up. First off he needed a shower, Matthew made his way to the bathroom and turned on the hot water in the shower. While waiting for the water to become warm he looked at himself in the mirror. Right now his hair was definition of bed head. It was all messed up and sticking up in random places; it looked funny. Turning his back on the mirror he faced the shower and stuck his hand in to test the water. Perfect. Now that it was the right temperature he slipped off his pajama pants and shirt then stepped into the steamy shower. Ten minutes later the boy was located in his bedroom wearing a pair of jeans with a towel laying on his neck. Hunting around his room he needed to find a shirt to wear for the day. Spotting a white shirt he grabbed it and quickly put it on. He needed something else to go along with it as wearing it alone would be too plain. After drying his hair with the towel he decided on wearing a sweater over it along with a brown hat. Lastly he slipped on his converses. He was now ready to face the world. Putting his iPhone in his pants pocket, he picked the keys off of the table and left his beach house on the mission of finding Jensen at the docks.
Standing around at the docks he waited patiently for Jensen to arrive, he had checked his iPhone and apparently she was about five minutes late. That was fine, he was in no rush. He was just glad to be able to see her again. It had been ages since the two had last spoken to each other. Getting that text message from her last night had been a surprise to him. A good surprise. Suddenly he heard his name being called in a familiar voice. Turning around he began to smile as he saw none other than Jensen Miller running over to him. Next thing he knew her arms were wrapped around his neck in a huge hug. "Jensennn! Hey!" He exclaimed happily as he wrapped his arms around her waist, hugging her back. He chuckled as he heard her next comment and while she inspected him he let his gaze go up and down her body. "Why yes I am.. but you.. I think you've grown much more beautiful since the last time I saw you." He complimented her using a sweet tone. There was his sweetheart side beginning to shine. He was just so happy to see her plus what he said was true. Jensen had always been very attractive. She had this certain thing about her, a rare beauty. Removing his arms from being around her wait he nodded, "It's good to see you too, I'm glad that you're back." Boy this girl was even more excited than he was. He figured this out because she kept talking and when she spoke her tone was happy but rushed like she was trying to get as much information out of him as she could. "I shall try my best to fill you in on things, Wells Beach sure hasn't been the same without you though but how was California? I still miss not living there anymore but I have to get over it since Maine is my new home" Matt stated before hearing her next question, "Jules and I are.. actually I don't really know what we are. The situation is rather complicated but we're still friends so I guess that's good."

She was a bubbling mess really. Usually Jensen carried herself well. She was sweet and charming, friendly and welcoming but never too giggly or over the top. She couldn’t help it though. Matthew’s was the one meeting she could count on. The one person she just knew wouldn’t be mad at her but would instead be glad to see his own friend. Everyone else? Well, things hadn’t turned out as planned which was why Jensen was so relived to have been able to catch up with Matt. Alexis seemed more pissed off than anyone and Jensen was pretty sure the blonde wished she’d never returned. Or never left. She couldn’t quite tell. While Evan was her bestfriend and she knew he was happy she was home, she still felt like she’d let him down and had the feeling he felt exactly the same way. James? Well that was one big complicated mess she didn’t even want to ponder at this time. Then there was Matty. Sweet, loyal, ever so lovable Matty. The boy was one of the best people to count on. He was everything a girl would need really. He was happy yo be that shoulder to cry on. Happy to let Jensen drag him out when she needed a party buddy or felt he was being a recluse. Happy to be the guy that held the doors opened or held your bags. He was an absolute darling in Jensen’s eyes and she was so glad he’d remained the same.
He seemed just as happy to see her as she was to see him and she found this reassuring. Finally someone genuinely happy for her return. His familiar hug, they way he said her name. Yep, it was her old Matthew. She used the moment to catch her breath again. All that screaming had left her poor lungs out of oxygen. She laughed lightly at his compliment. No, he hadn’t changed at all. Always the first with a sweet, heart felt comment. He had the ability to make any girl feel good about herself. ”Still the charmer I see” she grinned and shook her head lightly, ”But thankyou none the less” Jensen accepted the compliment though she didn’t think it was all that true. Don’t get me wrong, she wasn’t one of those self loathing types. She just didn’t think she’d changed all that much. Then again she looked at herself every day so you didn’t really pick up changes yourself. As for Matthew. Well yes, he’d grown and he seemed to have matured. He’d always remain the same Matt in her eyes though.
Even Jensen was aware of her babbling. There was so much to get out, so many things to inquire about, people to ask after. She didn’t want to forget anything and yet she was sure she’d forgotten so much. That was typical Jensen though. Forgetful as ever and constantly trying to keep in the loop. It was far more difficult though now that she’d been so out of it. How many people had changed? How had they changed? How was everyone doing? She felt bad. Bad that she hadn’t been around to witness everything, to celebrate with her friends, to cuddle them when they needed. Sure she’d been dealing with her own stuff but she was now beginning to see why people were so annoyed with her. It was hard leaving and then coming back.
Her bubbly mood subsided a little with these thoughts. Her heart, head and lungs probably thanked her for it but she kind of wished she hadn’t had these thoughts. She perked up a little again as she was informed things weren’t the same without her. ”I guess there hasn’t been anyone to get you into as much trouble” she smiled lightly with another laugh. That was probably true. Jensen had a certain quality that drew people to her and made it hard for them to say no. She didn’t realise half of the time but she could get people into trouble and often got carried away. Matthew was a pretty good guy, not huge on the party scene but he let her drag him along every now and then and she was sure she’d shown him a good time. ”California?” she was once again bought out of her thoughts, ”Oh Cali” she shook her head for being so silly. ”It was good. Different to here. But really, really good” Jensen told Matty, sitting down on the pier, feet dangling over the edge, patting the spot next to her for Matt to sit. ”I wish you would have come to visit” Jensen sighed wistfully. Matt and Jules. That would have made her feel all the better while she was out there. It was more their home than hers anyway. It was no ones fault that they hadn’t though. Jensen had never suggested it and neither had he. ”You guys could have showed me around. It was horrible trying to find things at first” she laughed at her admission, making the mood lighter again. She’d found her away around California with ease after a few days. She made friends within hours of arriving and they were all eager to get her into the Californian way of life. Something from home would have been so much better though.
Her face fell as he gave her a short explanation on the Juliet situation. Things in that department seemed complicated. Another thing she’d missed out on and one she really wished she hadn’t. Juliet and Matt were like this shining beacon of hope. They were the perfect couple in Jensens eyes. She was sure she’d never find anyone that made her feel that content but she was so happy the pair had found each other. She’d always wished them nothing more than happiness. Not too mention they were two of her favourite people. ”Oh. Tell me all about it?” she asked him, her eyes gazing out over the still waters, finally feeling relaxed. She’d missed hanging out at the docks and talking with Matt. ”You’re one of the only people that still likes me enough to fill me in” she laughed, trying to hide how upset this fact actually made her. ”I’m pretty sure Alexis hates me now and as for most of the others? Things probably would have been better if I didn’t come back” she explained, her voice with a tad bit of sadness to it.

i used to rule the world seas would rise when i gave the word now in the morning i sleep alone
sweep the streets i used to own - - - - - - - - - - - Living in Wells Beach got lonely at times. Even though he had moved here back when the university first started up again he still didn't know that many people. Matt was gaining friends but it wasn't the same as when he lived in San Diego. Back there he had, had loads of friends and was one of the most popular guys at school because of his captain of the basketball team status. Starting over wasn't that fun but it made seeing Jensen even more special. She was someone he knew! An old friend, someone he had memories with. So it was obvious by the way he smiled constantly now that he was glad to see her. How could he not be? There were so many thoughts on his mind right now like if she had met up with any of their other friends. He assumed that she already had many friends here to come back to but then Alexis and Juliet were here too. Alexis and Jensen were pretty good friends if his memory served however he knew that Jules was much closer to the girl that he was standing with right now. There had been many times when he had dated Juliet that he'd go out with her and Jensen just to chill and stuff. It was a good time because truly no matter what the three did they'd have fun. That was how good their friendships were, they could just talk become amused for hours although on the chance that for some odd reason that things did become boring Jensen could always fix that with her wild child ways. She was quite the character that girl was, seeing her made him realize just how much he had actually missed her. Things really had changed without her. Her bubbly personality added so much to this town. She never failed to make a person smile, if Matt was in a poor mood she could change it in a second.
Releasing her from the hug the smile stayed plastered on his face and he laughed quietly as she began to catch her breath. The compliment slipped out with ease as he looked at her because in his mind it was truth. Matthew was forever giving compliments to his friends that were girls. He liked doing it because he enjoyed seeing them smile and knew that they liked hearing those compliments just as much as he liked giving them; maybe more. "It's what I do." The young man stated with a cheesy grin but then nodded his head, "You're very welcome" After replying to her many questions he waited patiently for her to give him some of her answers. Jensen seemed so interested in what she had missed, he couldn't blame her for that since it was a small town if something happened then everyone around would know about it but he was curious about her little 'vacation'. The question why she left was a big one on his mind, she had never given him a reason. "Exactly! It's been boring!" then added, "But at least you are back now, may I ask one thing though? Why exactly did you leave anyways?" Matthew gave up, he had to ask that question. His curiosity on it just couldn't be controlled. Listening as she began to tell him about California. This caused him to begin to reminisce on his old memories of the state. He missed the warm weather, when he first came to Maine he remembered how cold he found it. Took him a while before he adjusted to the different climates. A thing that he really missed was the beaches. The beaches there were totally different from the ones here. The waves were incredible there, Matt being the sports guy that he was adored surfing. It was something that he use to do a lot, it was basically school, basketball and surfing. That was how he'd spend his time. "You should've called or something, it would've been awesome to go visit the place again" He exclaimed, "I could've taken you out surfing"
Juliet. She was a difficult subject lately for him. He was still in love with her, most of his friends had figured it out. He just couldn't get over her; it was a huge mistake he shouldn't have broken things off. Fear was what made him do it, fear of losing her to someone else when they went their separate ways. That hadn't happened though, well he didn't know about the losing her to another guy part considering they never really talked about their relationship status to one another. What hadn't happened was that they didn't go their separate ways. It had been a total shock to Matthew back when he first found out that she lived here to. It changed everything. He wanted her back - he was just too nervous to admit it to her. Sitting down beside Jensen on the docks he looked out at the ocean as his mind drifted onto thoughts of Juliet. ”Oh. Tell me all about it?” Matt looked at her, his face not as happy as what it had been earlier. "I messed things up, back before graduation I broke up with her.. I got scared because I thought if we went to different colleges that she'd fall for some other guy. Turns out we didn't go to different colleges though because she's here and I'm here. I think you can figure out why it's complicated.." with that said a sigh escaped from the boy's lips. He looked down into the water, seeing the reflection of himself and his friend. Thinking of Jules in this way dampened his happy mood. Suddenly Jensen said something that made him forget his problem and focused more on her. "Whoa what?" He said slightly shocked at what she had said, Alexis hated her? How did he not know this, when did this happen, why? Confusion drifted over his body, could it be true? "Hate is an awful strong word.. I doubt that she could hate you.. maybe she's just a little bitter?" He commented, he'd have to pursue this the next time that he spoke with Lexy. "Oh come off it, I'm sure tons of other people are glad to see you again. I know I am and Jules will be too. It would've been disappointing if you stayed away."
