indiana rae carlton
DO THE HELEN KELLER AND TALK WITH YOUR HIPS
"indiana rae, no meaning just a name my mom thought sounded really pretty. i think she got indiana from a tv show or something, and rae was my dads idea. i like my name but most people shorten my name to indie because indiana is a bit of a mouthful."
AWESOME! SO ARE YOU MALE OR FEMALE? OR SOMETHING ELSE? YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO SURE NOWADAYS..
"definitely female."
HOW OLD ARE YOU?
"i'm eighteen, just left high school. birthday is february fourteenth, valentines day."
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
"i was born in tennessee but my parents moved to maine when i was four because of my dad's job. i consider wells beach as my hometown even if all my family are in tennessee."
NOW MOVING ONTO WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE. HOW TALL ARE YOU, AND IF YOU DON'T MIND ME ASKING, HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH?
"i'm just under five foot seven, i weigh around one hundred and twenty pounds."
WHAT GENDER ARE YOU MOSTLY INTO: GUYS, GIRLS OR BOTH?
"straight, i like boys. not that i've been invovled with many..."
WHAT ARE YOU GOOD AT?
"i'm pretty musical, i sing and play the guitar and piano. and i guess my acting is alright, i've had a couple of lead roles in the school productions. i've been told i'm a good listener and a peace keeper, that's probably because i'm pretty relaxed and non confrontational. i have a big imagination and i'm quite creative, i'm quite arts and craftsy. i reckon i'm a sincere and honest person, i don't bitch and i'm not too face. i'm easy going and i try to get along with everyone."
COOL. WHAT ARE YOU NOT SO GOOD AT?
"well i'm not mega intelligent, i've never been top of the class. i don't necessarily have the most logical way of thinking and i can be quite ditzy. technology terrifies me, i can just about use my cell and laptop. my organization and time managment skills are awful and i get easily distracted. i'm clumsy and i fall over a lot, that's why i don't take part in sports. i have low self confidence and i am really sensitive. people tell me i'm naive, and i guess i am, i haven't had much experience and i'm not exactly 'street-wise'."
AWW, THAT SUCKS. WHAT DO YOU LIKE?"
"i adore music, my guitar is my best friend. i love the theatre, musicals especially - wicked is my favourite, i've seen it four times! my dogs are my babies and i enjoy taking them for long walks. my mum's cooking is the business, shame i can't cook like her. spending time with my friends is my favourite thing to do, i also love reading and making my own clothes."
I LIKE SOME OF THOSE THINGS TOO! WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE?
"i never really liked school, i was never really popular and i was teased in middle school. maths and science really aren't my thing. technology seems to hate me, i can never get a computer to co operate with me. riddles and puzzles drive me mad. i hate people who pick their nose, even worse when they eat it. i'm not a big fan of travelling, i get the worst jet lag ever."
I SEE. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU FEAR?
"growing up is pretty scary isn't it? but i guess we all have to do it. and losing the people i love is something i am mega terrified of. fear of heights or insects pale into insignificance against the fear i feel about loosing those close to me."
WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE, DO YOU HAVE ANY HOPES AND DREAMS?"
"i want to be a musician, i was to make my own music and have people singing along to it on the radio. i know i'm going to have to work hard, i'm already getting gigs in local venues."
GOOD LUCK WITH THOSE! OKAY, SO I LIKE ABIT OF GOSSIP. DO YOU HAVE ANY SECRETS? I WON'T TELL ANYONE.
"i don't have any. i've never done anything scandalous. i guess the fact that i broke a window when i was seven then told my mum is was the next door neighbours is the only secret i have."
WOW. TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR PERSONALITY. I WANNA KNOW WHAT YOU'RE LIKE AS A PERSON.
"well i'm a pretty relaxed, laid back person. i don't tend to get stressed out over silly things. but sometimes i'm so laid back i'm kind of lazy, and trying to organize anything with me is difficult. i'm always late and i'm pretty forgettful at times. but i'm always happy and i don't let things get me down. in my group of friends i the mediator, i stop fights from happening and i guess i have a calming effect on people. i'm always sincere, i hate bitchiness, and i can't lie to save my life. i don't really believe in myself, i have low self confidence but i'm getting better at being more confident! i've had quite a sheltered life so i'm kind of naive, even at eighteen. but i have an open mind and am willing to try everything and accept people for who they are. i'm a dreamer and a romantic and i always see the good in people, even if it isn't there."
WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND?
"similar interests, dark hair, dark eyes, tall, musical, fun loving, romantic."
WELL I GUESS THAT PUTS ME OUT OF THE RUNNING. WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE IN A BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND?
"arrogance, the 'gangster' look, no interest in music, flat personality."
OKAY, WELL I'M GOING TO ASK WHAT SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITES ARE NOW, OKAY?
"alrighty."
FAVOURITE FOOD & DRINK?
"caramel hot chocolate."
FAVOURITE MOVIE & TV SHOW?
"moulin rogue & thats 70's show."
FAVOURITE BAND/SINGER?
"regina spektor."
FAVOURITE COLOUR?
"sunny yellow."
FAVOURITE LYRIC OR QUOTE?
"of course it's happening inside your head, harry, but why on earth should that mean it's not real?"
THAT WAS FUN. TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR PARENTS.
"frank and melanie carlton. dad's a finance manager for a bank and mom owns a bakery. dad's quite a strict man but totally loveable too. mom's just completely eccentric and a little mad if you ask me."
DO YOU HAVE ANY SIBLINGS?
"i have a sixteen year old brother called jesse-joseph but everyone calls him jj. he's an annoying little twerp."
TELL ME ABOUT A REALLY GOOD TIME IN YOUR LIFE.
"the first time i performed one of my own songs, it was at a school talent show and sure it's not glamorous but everyone loved it. the elation i felt knowing people loved something i had written with amazing."
THAT SOUNDS AWESOME. WHAT ABOUT A NOT-SO-GOOD TIME ON YOUR LIFE?
"when my granny died, me and her were real close. she loved to listen to me sing and came to every show i did. but she got cancer when i was thirteen and didn't survive. losing her was heartbreaking."
OH DEAR. I THINK THIS INTERVIEW IS OVER NOW. HAS ANYONE EVER TOLD YOU THAT YOU LOOK ALIKE LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT? COS YOU REALLY DO. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
"oh really? you're the first person to say that. thanks."

ALL OF THE PEOPLE START TO RUSH
--------------------------
.
emerson enjoyed a good party, though she wasn't often invited to many. she loved the atmosphere, being crammed into a room with fifty strangers and shouting over the loud music to introduce herself. tonight a friend from college had brought her along to one of the really big houses in scituate for her cousin's house party. half an hour after arriving emerson's friend had disappeared leaving em in the corner of the room with her beer, but it wasn't long before she was chatting away to a rather lanky looking boy wearing a motorhead t shirt, when emerson had finished her drink and thrown the empty cup onto the floor he asked her if she wanted to dance.
he led her into the next room packed full of people grinding against each other, taking her hand firmly in his he guided her through the crowd of people until coming to a stop in the middle. slipping his arms around em's small waist emerson lifted her arms and slung them around his neck. emerson was usually quite confident with guys, but she wouldn't usually allow them to press their bodies to close to her own on a sweaty dance floor. but emerson had been drinking, and although she wasn't drunk she was feeling much more liberal than usual. her eyes were glazed over and she stared dreamily across the dance floor as his hands made there way up and down her body. after a few songs he pulled away, "do you want a drink?" he shouted over the music. smiling vaguely she nodded slowly and pushed her hair back, as he moved away from her she spotted a guy lingering near the doorway, their eyes met for a second before a very drunk girl staggered past emerson and her attention was turned onto her.
emerson watched as the girl tripped and stumbled about the place, she wondered if she should help but she figured it was the girl’s own fault for getting so drunk and wearing heels that high. emerson looked down at her own choice of footwear, a pair of sneakers, not the sort of shoe one would normally wear to a party but they were comfy as hell and protected toes from spiky stilettos on packed dance floors. never really one to dress up emerson did feel slightly out of place in amongst the short skirts and high heels but it wasn’t a look she could pull off nor would she feel comfortable with. she pushed her hair back again, a habit that couldn’t be helped when you had as much hair as em did, and rocked back on her heels. finally the famaliar face appeared with two beers, he smiled and handed one to em then placed his now free hand on the small of her back, he began speaking but emerson couldn’t hear him over the music so just watched his lips closely whilst nodding her head along to the beat of the music. then he leaned in closer, “hey a group of us are going down the beach, want to come?” pursing her lips emerson thought for a moment, then nodded and followed him from the group, it then struck her that she didn’t even know his name but she shrugged that off, what was the point in knowing his name? she didn’t care and probably was never going to see him again.
he led her out onto the porch at the front of the house where a group of about twenty were waiting, “are we ready?” asked a blonde hair slapping his hands together and everyone nodded and followed the blonde boy and another with a keg on his shoulder.
the walk to the beach took about twenty minutes, for most of the time the boy had his arm slung over emerson’s shoulders but gradually the fresh air began to clear her mind and she stopped mid walk to ‘tie up her shoelace’ and insisted she would catch up. stooping down she waited before he was a fair distance away then tagged along with a girl who was lagging at the back of the group. emerson said hi and explained she was avoiding someone, she pointed him out and the girl nodded and told emerson that he was a slime ball. her name was lily and emerson spent the rest of the walk chatting animatedly with her. they could smell the sea air before they hit the beach and the harsh sea wind made emerson pulled her blazer around her body now she was starting to regret her choice to come out here, she would have much preferred to stay in the warm house. the boys took them to part of the beach completely surrounded by rocks, which meant they had to climb over the slippery rocks because the tide was in. now more than ever emerson could justify her choice of sneakers over heels, and couldn’t help but laugh as she watch lily attempt fruitlessly to scale the rocks on her sparkly sandals, eventually one of the boys had to carry her over.
the boys told the group they had brought them here because they couldn’t get caught, seeing as a lot of them - including emerson - were under the drinking age. the keg was placed down in the sand, a pair of ipod speakers were set up and soon music was blaring out. lily was now flirting with the same guy that had carried her over the rocks so emerson was now left to her own devices, she sat herself on a rock and watched the party take place. just then she saw a familiar face approaching her, it was him. ‘oh crap’ emerson thought as she hopped down from her perch and slyly made her way into the crowd of people hoping to loose him. weaving her way in out various different people she was constantly checking over her shoulder to make sure she wasn’t being followed, until she walked straight into someone. “oh shit, sorry,” she said looking up to see who she had just collided with.TAG, alex vanderbilt
