»ANNETTESOLACEBRINSLOWʽʽdon‘t tell a soul goodbye just sneak outʼʼ --------------------------------------------------------- annette lightly touched the skin on her small arms, it’s soft flesh still sore from slipping earlier, only because she was a native to wells bay didn’t make her impenetrable to slipping every now and then. as she lay in bed there was a knock on her bedroom door, and her mother poked her head in. “are you feeling better?” she asked, annette nodded, trying to look like she hadn’t been daydreaming again when she should have been working on her papers. as if missing the oh so obvious shrug off, her mother intruded in her room, sitting down on the edge of her bed, putting a slightly clammy hand against her forehead. “mom, i‘m fine, what are you doing?” she asked. her mother rolled her eyes, taking her hand away putting them into her lap, she always did this, acted very motherly whenever she needed to vent about her frustrations, or whatever they were, onto her daughter. the first time she’d done this annette was only 8, and she didn’t think she needed to know any of what her mother was telling about her, commitment issues, troubles with being honest, all these things seemed to pull her from the comfort of childhood and innocence, into something most women around here would call a young lady.
but oh no, annette was so much more. the perfect, small town girl on the outside. golden and sinning hair with sweet blue eyes, no one, save a few, would guess the girl inside that waited to come out. the true annette pranced around the edges, told manipulative little lies and rather enjoyed it. sometimes annette herself had to wonder if this was some mental disorder, or if she did have a conscious why it remained so quite all the time. it wasn’t like she went around kicking puppies and stealing lolly’s from babies, but she enjoyed messing up a persons day, liked getting loud and arguing. the real annette also happened to be hopeless when it came to taking some of her own medicine, some had tried but she always found a way to get past it. however her mother had been one piece of gum on her shoes she could never fully get off. “alright, what happened?”
for a church going, god-fearing women, brinley brinslow had a lot of skeletons. after a half hour of ‘woe is me’ annette had all she could stomach, faming some study group meeting she needed to get to and left, her mother seemed annoyed but understood, before reluctantly going back to her routine of housewife/floozy.
the parent annette liked to boast about was her father, he was the only stable man in her life, always sending cards, reminders about appointments, and was helping her pay for university. she hoped she took after him. the only really significant proof she didn’t was the feelings annette got when she thought about her professor, the way her heart began to beat a little more when he spoke, the butterflies when she thought she caught him starring at her. so why did he have that stupid ring on his finger? the blonde figure drifted through the crowded mid day folks making their way by, folks stopping at the market, going into the library, chatting with old friends and completely absorbed in their day to day lives.
her phone was burning a hole in her pocket, her slim finger drifting over the keys, and she finally called him, coming up with needing some help on a paper. although she was quite able to do it on her own, a little company sounded much better at the time, and any excuse to get professor ryan to see her outside of their student and teacher rolls was one she didn’t want to miss. once he agreed to come meet her for some coffee and extra help she eagerly went back home, getting her books and wondering what to do with her hair. she decided to let the lose, and slightly wet curls alone, they would dry once inside, and it seemed a waste of time to do anything in that town, it always rained, if not in buckets than just sprinkling, managing to beat the best strengtheners.
running her fingers through her hair she arrived at the coffee shop, grabbing a spot away from the main group of people as she waited for prince charming.

even if you're hope is gone,---------------------------------------------------- elliot slowly picked up the finished breakfast dishes moving them downstairs and to the kitchen. he set them on the marble counter before beginning to run the water into the sink, and placing them in there letting the water wash off anything else left on the plate. generally they would let the dogs lick it to get it somewhat clean before washing but not seeing a true point in doing so he decided to just stick them in the dish washer instead of taking the trouble of stick the dogs in two seperate rooms and letting them each have a plate. it was annoying but elliot did mind at times, but he still had tons of stuff to do, and well he didn't exactly had enough time to do them all. he still had papers to read over, and grade though his grading usually went with her read the papers then told the students fix them knowing his class was more than likely the most easiest of the college.
turning off the sink he walked to the basement door opening it and letting the dogs run out knowing he kept them down there longer than usual. it wasn't something he wanted to do, but got caught up and lost track of him when he was with lily. it seemed to happen alot when he was with her, but didn't mind the distraction from his work though he knew he would be drinking coffee by the pot next morning to strive to stay away in class. he didn't want to cancel his class knowing it was something others did but students could usually count on his to be always open and ready. though at times he stayed later to help individual students or have dicussions with ones that seemed interested about the topic at hand. it was nice to bounce ideas off of his students at times, and well he enjoyed most of his classes.
moving into the living room he sat down on the couch and brough his bag up lightly to the table and set it on before opening the flap and pulling out a folder. he was organized and hated when he wasn't it just wasn't him not to be orginized. he opened the folder and began to read papers slowly beginning with his first class, and slowly working through the papers. he brought out his pen and marked on the paper where it could be changed, and things until he became distracted by the woman walking in the living room and sitting next to him. he looked up a minute before deciding putting his work down for a minute knowing that most of his students seemed to be learning for once. he didn't realize it was almost lunch and his stomach had been rumbling for food. he pushed his body off the couch and walked into the kitchening grabbing his phone of the way by.
he hadn't realized he set it there though friday night he had been dragging and set everything on the table when eating and then heading to bed. he was to drain to do much that day, and it lead to him passing out in his bed not really remembering what exactly happened to him. he opened his phone noticing he had one missed call. he called his voice box, and listened tot he voice of one of his most brilliant students. it seemed she didn't understand and he wasn't going to turn her down though he wasn't sure how she got his number of all people. he gave it to those who were in need of help or had some problems in there life they needed to talk about. but whatever the case was he wasn't going to complain about going to help out a student. agreeing to meet her at the coffee shop he looked at his watch before heading to his shower.
he stripped down to his naked body and stepped into the shower taking a quick shower before going to his room and changing into some of his formal cloths. he always wore a nice shirt and some blue jeans though it was rare to see him not dressed up or half way decent. he walked to the bathroom washed out his mouth, and combing his hair before heading to his car, and kissing his wife good bye. he knew it was suppose to be there day, but she seemed to understand how much he cared about his student's understanding of the material more than anything. arriving at the coffee shop he shut the door, and walked inside the shop. he headed to the counter ordering a two coffees knowing it would be his treat for annette.
he handed them cash before picking up the two cups and moving over to were he noticed hs student sitting. placing the cup in front of her he smiled lightly, and moved into the chair across from her. "evening ms. brinslow. what is it you don't seem to understand?" he was somewhat baffled by the fact she didn't understand but none the less she was a student, and he had to help out no matter how much he thought she understood.

»ANNETTESOLACEBRINSLOWʽʽdon‘t tell a soul goodbye just sneak outʼʼ --------------------------------------------------------- annette was quite meticulous when it came to her work. there was nothing she couldn’t, or wouldn’t, force herself to understand. her father never wanted any of his children to have to be fishermen like him, it was a hard life and he wanted the best for them, she got his intelligence and put it to good use in everything. never handing in anything late, or getting less than an A on her assignments. annette had to push herself to do well, since no one else was going to step up and do it for her. Somehow she managed to balance enough fun in there to keep her sanity, otherwise she might just go insane. She spent a lot of time working and studying, but the girl was by no means a saint.
even though she might seem like a complete brainy girl, she wasn’t. she was really laid back, not getting worked up over the little things in life, if dishes were in the sink they could wait until morning. life was too rushed and she preferred to stop and smell the flowers, however sweet they were they couldn’t excuse some of her faults. she was the most competitive person born on this green earth, and rarely, if ever, backed down from a challenge. she loved the thrill of it all, gloating without words, owning a title to your name. it made her feel proud, and stuffed her ego with lots of good stuff. annette had a very conceited mentality when it came to losing, she hated it, rarely did she ever let it happen, an took it very poorly indeed.
now, as she sat in the small, over stuffed café she mindlessly pulled her hair over her shoulder, the blond locks cascading over her warm sweater that clung to her small frame. she had a faint smile on her lips, apparently she was born with an always happy demeanour. until she got mad that was, but what else can you expect with so many brothers? the girl was bound to learn fist over words sometimes did apply. but as she sat there the door opened, a tiny bell chiming, assuming it was someone else she turned her head away, looking out the window to the streets of her home.
Wells Bay had always been her safety net, she didn’t even bother applying outside of there, not knowing if she could bare to leave her family like that. but the girl had big ambitions, beyond this small town, and she wasn’t sure she could put herself out there like that just yet, face the possible rejection the world would have store for her. it was predictable here, safe, understandable and simple. sometimes it was suffocating, most of the time maddening, but in moments like this, when things seemed to be going well enough, it brought enough peace of mind to make it through another day.
a few moments later she saw professor ryan coming in, and smiled over at him, hoping she didn’t look to immature, getting caught day dreaming again. ah, professor ryan, the current object of her desires, and a good portion of her copious amounts of day dreams. there was no denying how attractive he was, from looks alone it would make any girl weak in the knees. but she liked to think she was able to look way beyond that, to the good, smart man that he was, how could he not be perfect? why could he not be single? “good evening professor ryan.” she said, shrugging off the formality, “thank you for the coffee.” she said polietly, as cliché as a it seemed, flattered that he bothered to get it. she planned on paying for their coffee, since she was the one who dragged him out. he was such a gentleman.
now it was time for the mischievous girl to turn on her charm, her actress ability kicking in. putting on a frustrated little pull of her eyebrows she grabbed the rough notes of her paper out of her bag, laying them on the desk. “thank you for coming out to help me, i know most professors wouldn‘t do that for their students, but everyone else agrees, you’re the best.” a little flattery did no harm, right? “and this paper has been kicking my butt, i just can‘t seem to get my thoughts onto paper.” she slid over the pages so he could see what she’d done, the clever places she’d highlighted, scribbles and all, trying to emphasize the frustration part of it all. yeah, so she was laying it on pretty thick, but the problem wasn’t trying to look like a bad student, she could cover that with her acting ability, it was trying to get him to see her beyond being just a student that she hadn’t figured out yet. baby steps, she reminded herself.
annette wrapped her hands around the warm cup of coffee, letting her cold fingers heat up around the cup a little more. she overall pulled off the troubled student thing pretty well, and leaned in a little closer, reading over her pages, and shooting him a quick, curious glance every now and then. it was hard to see if he was interested in her or not. sometimes she got the impression that he was, when he smiled just a little longer at her, the nice little comments he wrote on her work, but other times it was like looking right through her. she was frustrated, and refusing to back down. you can’t just give up on a dream, and she wasn’t about to give up on this.

even if you're hope is gone,----------------------------------------------------
growing up his parents only wanted the world for there children, and well elliot seemed to be granted with brain power more than anything. their whole family was mostly brain though he uncle seemed to put the name to same with his low grade point average through out his time in school, and not even bothering to attend college. it was somewhat dissappointing but elliot, was glad he never made contact with any of his family besides his parents on occasion. his new family with lily seemed to be going great at least until robbie would get out of jail and possibly pound his face in or try to steal her from him. he didn't want that to happen and wasn't sure exactly what he would do not really wanting to think about it anymore. they were after all having a kid together, and elliot knew he was more ready to be a father than anything.
in high school it seemed to work out to his advantage that he hung out with girls more than guys. they would use his shoulder to cry on and he would learn what to say to women and how every woman wanted just to be loved and cared for. elliot knew he could do that, hell he was doing that now in his mind. he couldn't be evil to lily, though he was somewhat afraid of sufficating her to death by him always there to protect her. robbie was never there to protect her and was more in the sense of a pussy for beating women. it ticked elliot off thinking about the man but he couldn't help but think about him. he was after all the man lily married before him, and well thanks to robbie he was the one to push lily into elliot's arms. it was a confusing relationship at the beginning but he loved lily and nothing was going to change that.
annette was a beautiful young woman, and he admired the way she kept herself. but he couldn't and wouldn't allow himself get attached to the girl even if he kind of favored her over most of her peers in his class room. the headmaster was worried things could esclate into an affair and he didn't want elliot to teach outside of the class but he wouldn't listen. after awhile the headmaster decided to just give up and decided that maybe elliot teaching the students outside the class room actually helped them instead of hurt them. if he did help his students outside of class it was usually in the coffee shop, or some place in public. but on rare occassions he would invite them to his house knowing that he could trust them not to do anything to his house. his wife didn't mind to much or at least that's what she told him when he asked her about ten times before actually inviting the student over.
wells bay was a more of a fishing town than anything but none the less he grew up in the town. but he didn't go to college knowing that it wasn't something he wanted to do. instead he drove out of the state to get a college degree, and well some if not most of his students could have gone to a better college but didn't have the money or time to put into it. it was completely understandable and elliot didn't push them away knowing if he did that half the student body of the school would be gone. he knew his job wouldn't last long if he did that so he tended not to speak out on the college thing. coffee had been something that was a must have in college though some believed energy drinks in the morning did them well. it just proved his differences between him and some of his friends. but none the less friend to the end in his mind.
"your very much welcome dear," he couldn't let a student pay for something. he wouldn't let her do that knowing that some of his other students wanted to paid he just cut them off and tried to move onto there work instead. it somewhat confused him that she didn't understand, but none the less he would have to rephrase his plans for that knowing that annette was one of the better students and most of the time her peers went to her for help feeling embarrased to go to elliot. smiling light he shook his head when she said they agreed he was the best. "no worries, let me see this paper and see if i could help you." taking a sip of his coffee he set it down and took the paper from her and began to read it. he nodded his head lightly before, setting it on the table and pulling out a pen and circling a couple sentences.
he slid over to the chair next to her, before pointing at the paper. "if you change this sentence, and possibly move it down to the end you might have more to work with than just cutting it off you know what i mean?" he drew arrows to the space underneath where nothing was but he wasn't sure if it was making any senses to her at the moment. he would have gaven her a b on the paper alone but for someone reason annette strived to get only a's and it wasn't something that bothered him in the bet though when she slipped up he had to wonder if he was doing something wrong.

»ANNETTESOLACEBRINSLOWʽʽdon‘t tell a soul goodbye just sneak outʼʼ --------------------------------------------------------- high school hadn’t been anything less than a big party for annette. she was a member, if not leader, of almost every group or club, and beyond her academic ambitions, that always took centerfold, she had a lot of fun. there was always some party going on the she could easily get into, too many nights she can barely remember, but she never took it to the point of blacking out and ending up in some other town without any recollection. most of her life had been happy, the times she wasn’t at home. her parents had gotten separated, she had 2 half brothers and one full brother, but they were always divided up, weekends here and there, different holidays at different places, new girlfriends and boyfriends to meet. her way of cooping was to make herself as busy as possible, try to cram so much into her schedule that she would have had time to even think about what it would be like to live in a stable home for just a little while. maybe she understood, after all, people don’t stay in love forever, but sometimes she wondered how the families she saw on tv growing up could seem so perfect, when her own were far from it.
on the plus side, having 3 brothers did pan out well for her. she already knew lots of different people, and annette wasn’t bashful about rough housing, and quite accustomed to the un-bashful bodily functions of males. they were constantly rough housing, even when she started getting ‘girly’ she still was able to beat her oldest brother in an arm wrestle, if she decided to play just a bit dirty.
the happy little family thing hadn’t made much sense to her, but she sort of liked the idea. picturing herself chasing around a bunch of her own golden haired kids. this image seemed pretty distant to her though, she wasn’t even sure what she was going to do after she got her masters, would she leave wells, how many jobs were here in nature studies for a girl anyways? there would probably be more jobs in a big city, she wondered what living on her own be like. annette didn’t date a lot like most other girls, she would go out maybe once or twice with a guy and loose interest, either it was like talking to a wall or they were only thinking of one thing the entire time. and if she was being completely honest, she didn’t want to date another fisherman to be. the whole ‘you marry your father’ thing was fine and dandy for some, but she’d seen first hand how it could ruin things in a family, and didn’t want that either.
so maybe it seemed just picky, too high of standards, but she was 19, very young and attractive, with intelligence, so she was in no rush. but she pretty much figured she found what she looking for already, professor ryan was so much more than any other guy she’d met in wells. he was so smart, and so kind to her, but he was her teacher. it wasn’t like students and teachers had never crossed that line before, but she felt sort of guilty whenever she tried to flirt or anything, because he was such a good guy, and she didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable or get in any trouble with the school.
the guilty thoughts were subdued when he came next to her, annette let her hair fall over her shoulder, keeping a veil almost before her face while she bit her lip gently. his endearing terms like ‘dear’ and ‘miss’ were always a little offhanded for her, she would rather he just call her annette, hell, he could use her nick name ant for all she cared. but she kept quiet about that, she wasn’t going to ruin things now. as he studied her paper she was studying far more important things, like the way his hair looked in front of his eyes, almost of the verge of needing to get it trimmed back a little, but there was something so endearing to it. “mhmm.” she said, barely aware of the words he was saying about her paper, but she decided to at least focus a little on the paper, after all, she would have to redo this thing at some point, so why not try to get her best. “yeah, i see what you mean, but i wasn‘t sure how to connect my two points. they seem to jump around a lot.”]she said, leaning in a little more to her page.
annette gave her sweetest, almost apologetic smile over to him. “i know, i seem like i‘m obsessed with my grades, and well, i am. i just don‘t want to give in something i know i can do better on.” and that wasn’t a total lie, she did want to do better. annette always wanted to push herself, do the best that she could possibly do. while her eyes drifted along her page she grabbed her own highlighter out, the bright pink one she loved so dearly, and made a couple notes. her eyes glanced over a few times to the professors, making sure she was on the right track, when her elbow lost track of how much room it had. the cup off coffee she previously had her hands warming up on spilt, it fell onto her lap and pooled there, trailing down her leg and jeans, burning her. “ow!” she exclaimed, jumping up and some of the coffee dripped off her pants onto the ground, making a big, embarrassing mess. she started to fan her legs, waiting for the liquid to cool and stop burning her. she was too embarrassed from her play it cool act to even look him in the eyes at the moment. “uh, sorry, um, just a- just a sec.” she stuttered out, trying to find a napkin before she could make things worse, still resisting dancing to make the hot coffee cool faster.
