·it's hard to see you again·
,, now that you're back from the dead, it's hard to see you again, so bored of being you
march. scarlett never really had liked the month. not only was
it still cold but with no snow, but there were a ton of tourists.
why? fishing. who knew that stupid fishing could bring in so
many annoying people. not to mention that the crowd was like a
consumer of small children. luckily, today the crowd was less than
it had been all week. why? she had no clue. perhaps it was because
it was a sunday, during usual church hours. don't ask scarlett
why anyone would want to go to church during vacation,
because she had no clue why. she wouldn't want to. church in
general seemed like a waste of time to her. who knew if anyone
was actually listening to you, and she highly doubted that, in the
event that there really was a god, he would penalize people for
not attending church every sunday. it just didn't seem plausible.
now, the crowd was still a consumer of small children, which was
why scarlett had held onto little anya's hand tight as they walked
through the crowd. that was when anya had started begging for
an ice scream. her little face, rosy cheeks and all, put on its best
puppy-dog face, blue eyes welling up. damn child and her damn
adorable-ness. so scarlett had let go of her hand for five seconds.
the first three was to pay the man, and the next two to accept the
money. and somewhere in that five seconds, anya must've found
something that intrigued her more than ice cream, because she
was not there anymore. that was when scarlett had gone into full
meltdown mode. she normally didn't worry too much. she was an
in-the-moment kind of girl, convinced everything would work out
just because, but that little blonde-haired two year old was gone.
she was a pedophile's dream, really, and already the twenty-four
year old's mind was going crazy with the possibilities.
however, these scenarios were not the case. anya had seen a
man with a puppet trying to sell it to some tourists, and had
immediately gone after it. however, she'd just gotten a little
confused on the way, because she could no longer see the man
or her mother. but then, just like that, she spotted that blonde
hair and build that was her mother. she didn't notice the change
of clothes. she was only two! so she ran right on up, tugging the
woman's shirt shamelessly. "mommy! mommy!" she exclaimed,
begging to be picked up. meanwhile, in the little girl's sprint to who
she thought was her mother, her actual mother had caught a glimpse
of that curly blonde hair and had chased after it with a fierceness
possessed only by mothers. she quickly swept her up upon reaching
her, sighing with relief, able to breath again. she didn't notice who
the woman in front of her was as she scolded the young child softly.
"don't ever, ever run away from mommy like that again.
do you understand me?" the little girl nodded softly, and scarlett
finally looked up at the woman her daughter had ran to. "i'm
so sorry about this, she normally doesn't-" and she stopped
midsentence, because she could no longer speak. staring back at
her was...well, her, only less put together. was it..."stephanie?"
