it's about time you made some sense
you gotta throw down your ten foot fence
----- on a typical saturday morning, rhyen would have still been sleeping. on a typical saturday morning, rhyen wouldn't have woken up until about nine thirty or so. on a typical saturday morning, rhyen would have started her morning with some homework that was due that monday, that she had forever to do, of course. however, this wasn't a typical saturday morning for rhyen. you know those days when you forget to set your alarm clock a few hours later on a friday night? y'know, so it doesn't wake you up at an ungodly hour the following morning. unfortunately, that's what had happened to her. she had gotten in late the previous night, and setting her alarm back a few hours was pretty much the last thing on her mind. instead, she had come inside, tossed on a pair of sweats and a tank top, and pretty much crashed on her bed without a word. so a tired rhyen plus an unchanged alarm clock pretty much would give you the situation she was in right now. she murmured, reaching over to grab the bread that had just nearly scared the living hell out of her. it was hot, and it burned the pads of her fingers a bit, but she didn't let it bother her. instead, she just broke a small piece off the top corner and popped it into her mouth. one more glance to the coffee pot made her aware that her cup was done. holding the slice of bread between her teeth, she grabbed her favorite green, tinkerbell coffee mug that she had gotten in disney when she was a teenager and poured the liquid into it. she then pulled open the fridge and pulled out a quart of soy milk. that was when the toast started to burn her mouth. squeezing her eyes shut momentarily, she opened one of the cabinets and pulled out a small plate, setting the toast down onto it. by the time she had put her milk and sugar into her coffee, the slice of toast was pretty much gone. she knew her coffee would be gone just as quickly. she didn't bother blowing on it before taking a large sip, smiling as it warmed her. that was one thing that she was never going to get used to about maine; the weather. at least where she was in jersey was warm for the most part. maine was pretty freaking cold. the cold should be the last thing on rhyen's mind. when she thought about the cold, she felt cold, and she didn't exactly want to feel cold at that moment.
----- she stood in her kitchen, leaning tiredly against the counter, next to the coffee pot. if her morning was going to start off earlier than normal, then she was going to carry out her usual morning activities earlier than normal. she waited impatiently as the coffee dripped into the pot, her bangs damply sticking to her forehead from the shower she had just finished. she really only wanted one cup of coffee, and she wondered if it was really worth standing there for. in an effort to pass time, she dragged her feet over to the pantry and opened it, pulling out a packaged loaf of whole wheat bread. after fumbling to open the plastic, she slid out one slice, slipped it into the toaster, and proceeded to put the bread away. breakfast was never really a top priority to rhyen. sure, everyone said it was the most important meal of the day, but she never really had any motivation in the morning to get up and make herself anything. usually she would leave to class with just an apple or a banana and a bottle of water in her hand. she made sure that she at least had something to keep her metabolism going. that was one of the downfalls of living by herself; she hated to admit it, but she kind of missed having a home made breakfast every once in a while. an omelet, some banana pancakes, the good stuff that her mom made. she probably could make it if she had the motivation, but, alas, she was quite lazy in the morning. once in a while, on a slow moving day, she would take time to make pancakes or french toast. breakfast wasn't exactly her specialty. ask her to whip up some brownies or cookies for you, though, and she'd get right on it. rhyen absolutely loved baking, and it proved to be a pretty efficient way to relieve stress.
----- the sudden sound of the toast popping out of the toaster made rhyen jump. jesus christ,
----- before rhyen could even process what was going on, she took the last sip of her coffee, setting the mug in the dishwasher for later. for now, she needed to get dressed. well.. more like she needed to find a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie to wear. it wasn't uncommon to see rhyen out on a saturday morning, jogging for a little bit. it was something she had taken up back in high school, and it had sort of become routine to her. most of her saturday mornings started off with a jog, unless she was incredibly tired or sick or something of that nature. but most saturday mornings for her started with a jog. it wasn't anything like a mile or something, just a leisurely jog along the beach. it kept her active, since she found herself doing next to nothing that resembled exercise. what to wear, what to wear, rhyen sighed, opening her closet. really, she only had to many pairs of sweatpants to choose from, but she always got like that when she was picking out an outfit. it really didn't take too long for her to grab a pair of sweats, a long sleeved shirt and a hoodie to wear, and it took her less time to change. after blowdrying her hair just enough so it wasn't dripping, she pulled it into a low ponytail that practically sat in the hood of her sweatshirt. sneakers were slid on and a cellphone and iPod were grabbed before she was heading out the door.
----- rhyen was always thankful that she lived near the beach. it was beautiful, and she didn't have to go that far for her jog. within two minutes she was along the beach, picking her pace up slightly. sliding the iPod buds into her ears, she set the volume low and put it on shuffle, allowing whatever she had on there to play. and belive me, she had a wide range of music. everything from the heaviest rock to the softest acoustic occupied that little thing. she kept reminding herself that she needed to go through her thousands of songs and delete what she didn't listen to anymore, but she never really got around to it. it's not like it was a big deal; it just gave her more of a selection. a particularly relaxing song came on, causing rhyen's eyes to slide shut for a moment. of course, rhyen's the type of person who doesn't think about the fact that if you close your eyes when you're running, you're likely to collide with something or someone. unfortunately, that's exactly what she did. she felt herself collide with something solid and she stopped short. the first thing she did was pull the iPod buds out of her ears before apologizing. oh god, i'm sorry. i wasn't paying attention to what i was doing. and wasn't that the truth. sometimes rhyen really thought she had a problem paying attention to anything.
