now that she's back in the atmosphere
with drops of jupiter in her hair, hey, hey
----- rhyen wasn't exactly big on breakfast. she never usually ate it in high school, and over that course of four years, she had just gotten used to not eating anything in the morning. well, anything big really. she actually would consider a slice of toast breakfast, while other people needed to have a full bowl of cereal or an omelet or something to properly function. rhyen was usually good with something very small, like a single slice of toast, an apple, or even a handful of dry cereal. she sort of wondered why this morning, she woke up with an irrational craving for pancakes. not just regular pancakes, though, strawberry banana pancakes. now, first she wondered if she had any pancake mix, and when she found that in the pantry, she wondered if she had any strawberries and/or bananas. fortunately, she had one banana left and a handful of small strawberries. it was her lucky day or something. the pancakes were only for her, so it wasn't like she needed an entire bunch of bananas and a million strawberries. leaving the kitchen for a bit, she took her shower in record time, finding that her spontaneous craving was pretty damn strong. once everything was out on the counter, she started to chop up the strawberries and the banana and set out to prepare herself some friggen pancakes. mornings weren't really her thing, but when rhyen had a craving for a specific food, she had a craving. and it usually didn't go away until she had the specific food in her system, and damnit she wanted those strawberry banana pancakes! she had to meet james. how could she forget that? see how her irrational food cravings get in the way of everyday life? if she would have just carried out her morning normally, she probably would have been ready by now. sighing, she grabbed a small tupperwear container out of one of the cabinets above the counter, setting the five pancakes inside. she would just eat them on her way to meet him, and, knowing rhyen, she probably wouldn't even finish them. now, picking out and outfit was a totally different story. with the pancakes on the counter, she set off to her room, nearly running and slipping in front of her closet. rhyen literally grabbed the first things she saw; a pair of red tights and an oversized t-shirt that resembled a casual dress. when they were on her, she pulled an oversized cardigan on so she wouldn't freeze, and slipped on her favorite boots. it probably wasn't the most practical outfit in the world, but, hey, did i ever say she was a practical person? especially in picking out her outfits. rhyen liked to make a statement when she could. bright red leggings were kind of hard to miss. her phone was still going off as she finished pulling her boots on, and it took everything in her not to scream at the defenseless electronic. it wasn't at fault for going off, rhyen was the one who had set the alarm so she wouldn't forget when to leave. after the ringing had ceased, she grabbed her purse and hoisted it on her shoulder, brushing her hair out of her face before rushing over to her dresser to put on some eyeliner. her hair wasn't exactly the neatest thing, but it suited the look. it looked a little windblown, almost like she had just woken up from a nap. she quite liked it.
----- by the time rhyen had finished making the pancakes, her hair was, for the most part, dry, and her phone was going off. wait.. what? shit!
----- after she was absolutely sure that she was ready, she grabbed her phone and let it drop into her purse, as well as her keys. she left her bedroom, grabbing the pancakes off the counter on her way out. rhyen made sure her door was locked and wrapped her sweater around herself, immediately regretting her decision to wear what she currently had on. unfortunately, it was too late to go back inside and change. she really didn't like to keep people waiting. before she could even get twenty steps away from her house the plastic container was opened, and rhyen was ripping off a small piece of one of the pancakes. she couldn't help but smile as she chewed on it; it had been far too long since she had these. nobody could make them like her mom, though. rhyen's mother had the ability to make the best breakfasts the girl had ever tasted in her life, and sometimes she would drive over to her parents' house for the day just so she could have some of her mom's home made food. it was something she would never get tired of; the meals were enough, but not so much that she felt like she was going to explode after eating them. it was perfect.
----- time seemed to pass by pretty fast, and rhyen began to approach where she said she would meet james. only half a pancake was gone, she was a pretty slow eater. looking around, she didn't see any sign of her friend. maybe he had forgotten? or maybe she was just early. curious, she reached into her bag and pulled out her phone to see what time it actually was. i stress over being late and i end up getting here early, she sighed, putting the phone away again. well, all there was left to do was wait. and pray that she didn't freeze. next time she agreed to meet someone, she was wearing jeans and a coat for sure. she made her way over to a small tree, sitting down and leaning against it. the ground wasn't wet, thank goodness. it wasn't early enough for the dew to still be on the grass. still, the ground was pretty cold. biting back a small yawn, rhyen opened the plastic container again, working on finishing the rest of the pancake that she hadn't finished on the way there.
