Leon who was the boss had been the one to hire Matt on and as time passed on they became closer. They listened to music, shared opinions and had many discussions. It was pretty rad. Leon was a great co-worker, he was nice and fun to hang out with. Working here didn't even seem like much of a job to Matt. Maybe it was because he liked it. After all it basically was the perfect job for him at the moment, he loved music, loved giving people his thoughts on them and recommending different artists and bands. It all fit. Suited him well. Obviously he knew that he wouldn't work here forever. He aspired to be a writer one day, that's what he was in college for. The boy had been accepted on a basketball scholarship which had been one of his goals at the time. It still was, playing in the NBA had always been his dream however the likeliness of that happening was one in a million. He had talent but he didn't know what the future held for him basketball wise. That was where his writing came in, it was something else he liked, something that could be used as a back up plan.
Anyways at the music shop he didn't have to really do anything, just talk to the people that come in and answer what ever questions they have. Plus he was allowed to listen to any of the cds that he wanted to and if he was going to buy one then he got an awesome employee discount. So yes, today had been a good day so far however it was rather quiet. Matt had left earlier for his coffee break, leaving Leon with a couple customers but then after he came back the place had become silent. It wasn't really bothering the young man though. He was fine with it. That just meant that he could do what he wanted. Leon was over laying on the small couch reading an X-Men comic while Matthew sat at the counter, looking around the room as he began to wonder what he could do to amuse himself for the time being. Turning around in his chair Matt leaned down, carefully opening up his bag and picking out his laptop. He usually took it with him in case he got some sort of inspiration. Setting it on the table he opened it up and then turned the computer on. In his writing class the professor had assigned a new project so he felt that perhaps he could spend some time working on it. Once everything was on and ready to run Matt opened up the word processor that he had been using when working on it previously the other night. After that page came up he read over the few paragraphs that he had so far and then began to type away.
While typing, clicking the back space button many times and then typing some more Matt heard the sound of a couple young kids walk into the store. A girl and a boy. The two began to look at the cds. That was all good and dandy except the rack of cds was close to the counter which was where Matt was planted at the moment. He overheard what they were talking about. "What the heck is this Death Cab for Cutie band, they look so stupid!" Said the small boy as he held up a copy of a Death Cab cd showing it to the girl. She nodded and giggled, "I agree, I bet that they are like the worst band in the world" When these words were said Matt blinked and looked up from his work and over at the kids. How could they say that? The band Death Cab for Cutie was amazing! The songs were awesome. How could you insult them? Better yet he wanted to know how you could say that they were the worse band in the world. This really annoyed Matt.
Death Cab was one of his favorite bands. Before the kids could say anything else Matthew got up off of his seat and walked over to them, a disgusted look on his face. "What?! I'm sorry but I couldn't help but overhear and maybe I didn't quite understand you, do correct me if i'm wrong, but did you seriously just say that Death Cab sucked?"" He questioned as he stared at them in disbelief. "No mister, we said that they were stupid but they do probably suck" The little boy said as he looked up at Matthew, still holding onto the copy. "Get out. Get out of my store. Right now. Just leave. Now go or I'll make my friend Leon here deal with you. And you wouldn't want that now would you.." He said coldly as he grabbed the cd of the child's hands and then watched as they ran out of the shop. This was ridiculous. There was no way that Matthew would allow these kids to stay in his store after that little display of stupidity. You just don't diss Death Cab. It's just not done!
The young man shook his head once the kids were gone, finally looking at Leon who was now standing up by the counter, a disgusted look on his face also. "I'm worried man, worried about today's youth. I mean how can they say that? What is the world coming too?" He said with a dramatic sigh. Leon looked back at Matt and nodded with a very serious look, "The whole world's going to go to hell if this keeps up" He stated and then looked at his watch. "Dude I'm gonna go get a coffee, want anything?" Mattie nodded, "Yeah just get me another large coffee please." He stated and then took his seat back behind the counter as Leon left on his coffee mission. Trying to relax again and forget about those kids Matt set the cd down next to his laptop and then began working again. His focus wasn't on it as much now though, his mind still wandered onto the kids. Himself and Leon were expecting the arrival of some girl today, she had applied for a job and Matt was suppose to give her some advice on working here. Show her the ropes so to speak. Hopefully she'd show up soon, that would get his mind off of everything.- - - - - - - - - - -
